Annual events and extra-curricular activities

multicultural

The curriculum at Crabtree Junior School is enhanced by 'extra' activities: school trips and visits, theme days and events, our annual Eisteddfod and Multicultural Week, to name but a few.

Eisteddfod

This week-long celebration is as old as the school ... now in its 42nd year! All children are encouraged to participate by contributing display items (e.g. art and craft, cake baking and decorating, creative writing) or by performing in front of the whole school.  There are categories for instrumental performances, poetry recitation, dance and singing.

Multicultural Day

In the summer term, we run a week-long series of multi-cultural workshops visitors teach different activities to the different year groups.  For 2015 the theme was Australia and the children were asked to come into dressed in yellow and green (the colours of the Australian sports teams). All the children took part in an Aboriginal workshop and had the chance to play the didgeridoo.

Book Week

We take part in the international book week celebrations on World Book Day in the spring term, the whole school dresses up as a character from their favourite book or author.

Christmas Plays and Productions

The Christmas performances are a highlight of the year:  In alternate years, the children perform plays in school – offerings include Robert the Reindeer, Jack and the Beanstalk, Peace Child and Countdown to Christmas.

Gym Display

For the past seven years a highlight of the spring term has been the school's gymnastics display. Training is open to all Year 5s and Year 6s and typically involves around 100 children - a mammoth task of organisation. The children perform small group routines as well as whole class displays and there is breathtaking trampette section.

Sports Day

In the summer term we have our Sports Day which gives all the children the opportunity to participate in various sports activities and competitive races.  This is the culmination of the year's house events and a cup is awarded at the end of the day to the House with the most points overall.

Year 6 Leavers’ Concert

Every year, Year 6 students present to parents a Leavers’ Concert of songs, dances and sketches, which they produce on their own.  This is a fantastic showcase for the talents of our pupils, demonstrating just how far their confidence has grown in their time at Crabtree Junior School.
